When Fox Theatre opened its doors in 1928, 20,000 people thronged Oakland’s newest movie palace. The crowd will be smaller, but no less exhilarated, at Rail~Volution’s Welcome Reception at this historic theatre. Ride BART 12 minutes from San Francisco to Oakland’s Uptown District, the demographic center of the Bay Area. The centerpiece of the revitalized Uptown, the Fox is home to live jazz, funk and rock performances, as well as the Oakland School for the Arts.
Ever dreamed of fronting a rock band? Here’s your chance! The Amazing Embarrassonic Human Karaoke Machine will be on-hand at our Welcome Reception to lure you up on stage. They started in the dive bars of San Francisco’s Mission District – and now it’s come to Rail~Volution! No prerecorded tracks. Sing along with a live three-piece band with over 500 songs in their repertoire. Classic rock, punk, pop, soul, classic country – pick your poison. Who knows? After you make your stage debut, mingle with friends, old and new. Nibble, drink and enjoy the exquisitely restored beaux-arts theatre. Come early to explore the district’s art deco buildings, City Hall, the Oakland Museum, Lake Merritt, and new bike lanes. After the reception, check out the long list of critics’ favorites – restaurants, breweries and even an urban winery.
Check out the song list and warm up those vocals!
