Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Rail~Volution 2018 in Pittsburgh, October 21-24. Volunteer sign up will open in August. This conference involves 1,200 – 1,500 professionals who share your dedication to transit, livability and communities. Your time and effort make this conference possible. While volunteering DOES NOT qualify you for free conference registration, there are a number of volunteer opportunities that allow you to earn time credits to attend some of (but not the entire) conference. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and are expected to attend volunteer orientation, if possible. Typically, volunteers help out in the following ways:
Local Host Table Staff
Volunteers who staff the Local Host Table get the opportunity to meet a lot of friendly people who are committed to livable communities! Expect to provide reference materials and answer questions about where to eat, sites to see, and the region and conference in general.
Mobile Workshop Check in Table Assistant
Volunteers who serve as Mobile Workshop Check-in Table Assistants get the opportunity to meet a lot of friendly conference registrants who are excited to attend their Mobile Workshop! Expect to check-in attendees to the correct mobile workshop, direct groups to meeting locations, hand out supplies, and generally get people ready for their mobile workshop.
Mobile Workshop Assistants
Volunteers who are Mobile Workshop Assistants (MWAs) are required to attend the Mobile Workshop (for free). Expect to help attendees navigate the mobile tour and be available for general support with supplies and large group travel. Mobile Workshop Assistants get to attend the mobile workshop for free and therefore do not earn session time.
Transit Ambassadors for the Welcome Reception/PK Slam
Volunteers who serve as Welcome Reception and PK Slam Transit Ambassadors get to help excited attendees find their way to event locations! Expect to be standing at key locations along the travel route guiding conference attendees and answering question. The transit ambassadors get to attend the events after their shift for free and therefore do not earn session time.
Volunteers who serve as Session Assistants get to interact with many friendly attendees as they help people navigate their way around the conference! Expect to provide directions around the hotel, assist attendees to the correct conference rooms, and answer general questions.
Pittsburgh Day Assistant (Wednesday, October 24, afternoon)
Volunteers who serve as Pittsburgh Day Assistants get to help Pittsburgh Day run smoothly for passionate discussion with local and national leaders. Expect to help check in attendees, register participants, and provide general support in terms of supplies and administration. Pittsburgh Day Assistants get to attend the half day for free therefore do not earn session time.
