Update: September 15, 2017
The App is available for Apple users!
Follow this link to go to the AgendaPop app. Download it to your device. Once downloaded, enter railvolution as the Organizer Code and the app will morph into the railvolution app. Enter the email you used to register. The password (if requested) is transit. Note: because of Apple’s recent change in policy for the App Store, the app on your device will be AgendaPop instead of a Railvolution branded app. (Android users see a railvolution branded app.)
Every year at Rail~Volution we have a conference app. This year, we decided to use a different app because it would better facilitate use of different social media platforms by attendees and provide easier upload of conference information. We contracted with an app developer with several years experience providing apps for conferences. All good, right? Yes, if you are an Android user, no if you are an Apple user.
The Rail~Volution app submitted to the Google Play store and the Apple App store was accepted by Google but rejected by Apple. We apologize.
This summer, Apple issued a new policy about apps in an effort to reduce spam. That sounds good. But, legitimate developers got caught in their purge. Read a couple of posts from developers here and here.
Since July, we and our app developer have tried several avenues to resolve the situation. The App Store Review team communicates mostly by message boards. Submit. Receive rejection notice with formulaic words about the problem. Attempt to fix and resubmit. Same result.
We have spoken to people in App Developer Support. They relayed our issues to the people in the App Store Review team, including the fact that our conference is now about to start. Yesterday, the App Store Review team sent a message to say they would call, but not for 3 to 5 business days.
What to do?
As we continue to work with our developer, AgendaPop and Open Concept Systems, help us out by letting Apple know you’d like to see the Railvolution app. Tweet: Hey @apple why isn’t the @AgendaPopApp for #Railvolution in the App Store?
Unfortunately, the ones who are affected the most are the users of Apple phones and devices.
If you’re an Android user, try not to gloat. According to a July industry report, “Android accounted for 67% of US phone activations from April – June 2017, up from 63% in the same quarter last year. . . . Android outsold IOS, and improved on its gains from 2016.”
